Mighty Shi-Fu

(Black Forest Windchime John--Mattithyah Farms New Dawn)

Welcome to the world, Shi-fu. She was born on Saturday, February 18, 2006, at 4:40 a.m. EST. Mare and filly are healthy and strong, as you can see from the pictures. Shi-fu has an unusual island of gray on her blaze, as well as four white stockings. She will probably shed out black like her parents.

Shi-fu is the daughter of our Registered American Shire, Mighty Dawn. The word shifu is a widely used form of address in China. It has replaced the antiquated term "comrade" to refer to skilled workers but is also used as a respectful and polite word for teacher. The Shire's special place in history as a skilled working horse is unquestioned and we hope that Shi-fu (the hyphen is our own addition and we pronounce it "she-foo") will turn out to be respected and envied in her own endeavors-- whether it be trail riding, driving, or even dressage.
